The Sonoma Valley FIre Distrcit is a "Fire Risk Reduction Community"

Emblem with text "FIRE RISK REDUCTION" and "FIRE DISTRICT COMMUNITY", a fireman's helmet, and water hose.

The State of California has several initiatives aimed at reducing fire risks and enhancing community resilience against wildfires. These include the Fire Risk Reduction Community (FRRC) designation, which is managed by the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection. This designation is granted to communities that meet best practices for local fire planning, including creating defensible space, implementing building codes that minimize ignition risk, and developing comprehensive wildfire mitigation strategies. As of 2024, communities like Placer County have been recognized for exceeding minimum fire safety standards, making them eligible for priority funding for wildfire prevention projects.
